Over the past three and a half weeks, Worcester Racecourse has much enjoyed having Katie Mansell working in the Office as part of her degree course at Hartpury University, where she studies Equine Business Management.
Katie, who is from West Wales, has just finished her first year at Hartpury and has this to say about her time spent at the racecourse situated in the heart of Worcester city centre :
“I have always had an interest in horses and the racing industry. I own a horse myself and my aunt has bred racehorses that are in training with Debbie and Paul Hamer and we were fortunate to have a treble at Worcester Racecourse in 2017. I am familiar with the raceday experience and wanted to know more about the management side of it.
After enquiring at the racecourse office, I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity of experiencing first-hand how racecourses operate and are managed. I started on the 5th June and was immediately involved in a number of different elements of the business. I also learnt how the racecourse prepares for racedays and approaches new business opportunities.
My experience ranged from learning about the maintenance of the track and stables with the ground staff, to handling enquiries and completing the day-to-day tasks required in the office, including answering phone enquiries and processing tickets for the upcoming racedays.
I very much enjoyed my time at the racecourse. I met some lovely people and I am very pleased to have been invited back to work at Worcester racecourse for their racedays so I can learn what it is like to work behind the scenes on racedays rather than being a visitor.”
